The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) represents around 3,000 professional acupuncturists who have degree level training in acupuncture. We represent and support acupuncturists, provide education and information resources and work to influence government policy and act as a regulator in line with the Professional Standards Authority accredited register scheme. Reporting to the CEO, this post will operate the disciplinary and health procedures by which practitioner members of the BAcC are bound. Secondary but no less important functions include maintenance and development of the BAcC’s professional Codes, guidance for practitioner members on the principles and implementation of the Codes, and handling responses to patient enquiries on these matters. About you – Ideally you should have a post graduate legal qualification, experience of working with Committees, the ability to act without supervision and experience of working in a regulatory environment. You should react constructively and positively to change.
The British Acupuncture Council is based in Acton Vale, West London. This post is suggested in the first instance to be up to 3 days a week, with the opportunity of home working. We are the leading professional organisation for traditional acupuncture, accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. We provide information to people about acupuncture, set exemplary professional standards, regulate as well as support members at both national and local level and currently have around 3000 members.
We are currently looking for Governing Board members to join our nine person Board. These will be talented individuals with the right personal qualities and necessary experience at Board level or other similar experience. The role is unpaid apart from travel expenses and a daily meeting remuneration for £200, but carries with it the opportunity to make a real difference to the acupuncture profession. We need strategic thinkers with excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to assimilate complex information and ask challenging strategic questions. Ideally, the suitable candidate will also have skills, knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
All Governing Board members are expected to share the values of the BAcC and to be able to commit both the time and energy needed to do a great job. The Board meets three times a year with an additional AGM and occasional 'away days'.
