The BAcC is a company limited by guarantee whose overall management is entrusted to an Executive Committee of twenty-two members. The Executive Committee makes the overall policy decisions for the BAcC by developing and publishing policies in pursuit of the BAcC's aims and by representing the BAcC in its negotiations with governmental and statutory bodies. In addition, the Executive Committee ensures that the constitutional responsibilities of the BAcC are achieved by maintaining a register of professional membership, setting and overseeing professional standards (for example in respect of safe, ethical and competent practice) and encouraging training and research into acupuncture.

The Executive Committee is helped by a number of specialist committees covering all aspects of its operations - finance, safe practice, education, conduct, research, marketing, and so on. These BAcC committees include lay representation so as to ensure that the processes of developing BAcC policies and guidelines are fair, transparent and free from bias. Members of all BAcC committees abide by the seven key principles of public office (the 'Nolan Principles').

A short information booklet on the BAcC's committees and their main responsibilities can be downloaded here.

The day-to-day work of the BAcC is undertaken by a team of staff led by Chief Executive Officer Mike O'Farrell and based in the BAcC's West London office. As well as offering skills in their specialist areas many of the staff are also qualified practising acupuncturists. This helps us provide rapid and authoritative responses to members of the public: a service unique in the field of complementary therapy.
