The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) is the leading self-regulatory body for professional traditional acupuncturists. We represent and support acupuncturists as a professional association and act as a regulator. BAcC is proud to be a Professional Standards Authority Accredited Register.

This position combines the former roles of the part-time Professional Conduct Officer and the full-time Ethics Secretary. The Professional Conduct Officer reports to the Head of Professional Standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the disciplinary and health procedures (the Ethics Procedures) by which our members are bound. Secondary but no less important functions include:

  • helping to process applications for membership where health or ethics issues have been declared by the prospective member;
  • assisting with the annual audit of the mandatory declaration process;
  • working with the Head of Professional Standards on the maintenance and development of the BAcC’s professional codes, guides, standards and policies;
  • organising training for the Ethics Committees;
  • handling responses to patient enquiries concerning complaints; and
  • completing all the administrative tasks associated with the operation of the Ethics Committees.

It is essential that you: have a Law Degree; are organised; have good communication skills; have the ability to make decisions and work without supervision; react constructively and positively to change; and are proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ideally, you should have a post graduate legal qualification, experience of working with committees and experience of working in a regulatory environment.

The post is full time and office based in Acton Vale, West London. The salary will be in the range of £35 - £40K per year depending on experience.

The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) is the membership organisation and Professional Standards Agency accredited regulator for around 3,000 traditional acupuncturists who have a minimum of degree level training in traditional acupuncture.

The prime responsibility of the Education Officer is the implementation of agreed BAcC education policy.

There is an expectation that the implementation of education policy will be integrated into a wide range of services offered to members including but not limited to supporting local regional structures, implementing and maintaining business development support, implementing and maintaining mentoring and supervision support and generally supporting professional development projects.
