In becoming a Student Member of the British Acupuncture Council, you will be entitled to the range of services outlined in the Schedule below. As a BAcC member, you will also have a number of rights and responsibilities over and above those relevant to your teaching institution. These include a general responsibility not to bring the BAcC or the acupuncture profession into disrepute, and a specific one not to use the title 'BAcC Student Member' in any context which mislead members of the public about your qualification status. The responsibilities also include a requirement ensure that you are aware of what current regulations that apply to you.

Although Student Members are listed alongside other classes of membership in the BAcC's Articles of Association, the BAcC has undertaken to waive any rights which it has to exercise its jurisdiction over Student Members while they fall under the jurisdiction of a teaching institution. This applies particularly to Articles 64 and 65 of the Articles. However, where any actions or behaviour are potential breaches of BAcC Codes but not teaching institution equivalents, or where the BAcC believes that a sanction applied by your teaching institution falls short of what it considers appropriate, it reserves the right to pursue the matter under Articles 64 and 65.

The BAcC has also undertaken with your teaching institution not to make available all of the support and defence services enjoyed by BAcC member. This means that in any dispute or disagreement with a teaching institution the BAcC will not, either itself or through any of the services it contracts for members, provide support for a student in dispute with an institution.

If your teaching institution has agreed with the BAcC to provide professional indemnity insurance for your clinical training within the BAcC's own policy, you will be required undertake to abide by the terms of the policy and to inform the BAcC of any claims or potential claims which are being made against you
By this policy statement the British Acupuncture Council affirms its commitment to provide a defined range of facilities for Student Members in such a way that it does not undermine or impinge on the autonomy of the teaching institution.
